depends on what your goal is I suppose. I haven't used dumbbells or done any free weight workouts in years so I'm not going to pretend like i know what I'm talking about. you might get faster results with free weights since there's more resistance. again, depends on what you're going for.

definitely not to get ripped, just build some strength as I’m pretty weak...maybe some tone and just stay active...for some reason I just really don’t like lifting weights

I'd say definitely keep going with the weights too as press ups are only going to target a specific area and if you just focus on that there's a higher chance of injuring something etc....
Having said that - I really have no idea what I'm talking about

agree with Rangi, tho I've had moments where I got injured with weights, had to take time off, and the lack of exercise affected my overall mood. if you're trying to stay active and build strength you can go with a reasonable amount for free weight exercises, 20-30lbs. keep up what you've got going on tho. it's better than nothing.

As an aside from my earlier post - I did this 100 push ups a day thing for a little over a year without injury. Since then I've barely done any push ups and pretty much just stick with dumbbell workouts religiously - so just listen to your body....if things start to hurt - ease up
