What are your thoughts on this statement?

Its very prominent in the world I live. Rad bro's doing rad things and pushing the limits to the point where death is always a strong possibility. People die skiing quite a bit here. People make poor choices and head out into the back country and either fall of cliffs, die in avalanches, or various other scenarios. This also carries over into other areas of life and peoples choices in activities. The general sentiment, or at least, the way many of their close ones process the devastating loft is to simply believe that they died doing what they love.

I think its bullshit.

"Well, would you rather die driving a car or get cancer?"

Well, no, of course not.

This recently came to mind because a local resident here, apparently the best at what he does (big mountain riding, east vail chutes, etc...) went off a cliff and landed incorrectly and died. Part of the issue here is we have gotten a lot of early season snow so there is this misconception of how good the conditions are for such behaviors. There is no base so basically what happens is you land on this snow and sink all the way tot he bottom, often hitting tree's or rocks.

If he was the best at what he did, why did he make such a poor fucking choice? For "pure stoke bro!" or what? This never ending quest to be the raddest of the bro's?

If you love something so much, then live to do it another day? That is my motto. Also, im more of a pussy than many.

If i died eating chipotle, would i look down from the next world and nod appropriately "man, at least i died eating chipotle"

Probably not.

I'd be perfectly happy dying while out on a run.

Preferably in Glacier or at the Grand Canyon.

ideal scenario would be an instant death, during a life-saving heroic act, at a ripe old age of 85-ish. it checks all the boxes for me.

Ideal for me would have been during childbirth

I don't really understand this sentiment, though I have heard it plenty. I may love skiing, but I would likely not die from skiing; I would die from dropping off a cliff or being crushed by an avalanche or falling and breaking my neck, none of which would be any less terrifying or painful just because I happened to have been skiing immediately before. It's a dumb concept.

I mean, if I drift off peacefully while sitting in a comfortable chair listening to some music I love, then sure -- maybe. But if I get electrocuted by my guitar and catch on fire while standing on stage, I don't imagine I will go out with that same sense of peace.

I want to live to be old so that I can be a father. I want to watch my kids grow up, support them through everything that life can throw at them, love them, and be the best dad I can be. Nothing brings me more joy or a greater sense of accomplishment than watching my kids succeed in life. They deserve a dad, and they deserve for me to be the best dad I can be.

Aren't you glad you didn't die eating a plate of wings?
