The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
Growing up tall and fat, I never wanted to be the doughy, flabby kid who walked around all slumpy and soft and sad, so I kind of overcompensated in the other direction. Nowadays I've been told that I stand/walk like I'm about to beat somebody up, in a kind of exaggerated military stance, with my chest puffed up. A couple months ago somebody at the gym told me this is not very good for me and could lead to an injury. But I'm so used to it now.
So after all these years I find myself trying to re-learn how to stand in a way that doesn't hurt me and also doesn't look like I'm constantly trying to pick a fight with somebody, or impress a pigeon of the opposite sex for mating. I have an unusually long torso so it's kind of difficult. How's your posture?

Joining on this train because it's total shit. I try and then I'm walking and catch my reflection and I'm hunched again.

Ill catch myself slouching at work after being there for awhile but quickly adjust. Mostly I hvae pretty great posture, or i am at least very aware of my posture throughout the day but certainly can get lazy in sitting positions.
Adjust your rearview mirrors in your car accordingly, friends!

+1 on strats rear view mirror trick. My posture while walking is pretty good, it's something I worked on a long time ago. My posture while sitting is awful; in always slinging one leg across the other and slouching.

when i was around 10 years old, i used to walk with my shoulders up, like i was starting to shrug. My mom pointed it out to me constantly, which only made it worse and I'd always be checking to see if my shoulders were relaxed or not. This then caused another problem because most of the time if they were relaxed, I'd be kind of stooped with my shoulders too far forward. It was really nerve wracking for a couple years. I'd always hear my mom's voice in the back of my head: relax your shoulders so they're down AND back.
I don't pay attention to how i walk now so it's possible i still do that occasionally?
also, sItting posture doesn't exist in my world.

When it falls on your larynx and crushes your throat, killing you in the process?

Funny that I just signed on for the first time today and saw this thread, because on the way to work i had the thought of slamming keys in the "admit something" thread that I never trust people with really stiff posture
